Introduction:

Majmaah University strives to provide equal opportunities for male and female students with special needs, like their healthy colleagues, to enroll in all its educational and social programs, based on its belief in its duty to serve all members of society in all its categories. Providing all qualitative means to support students with special needs is an essential pillar in the planning and decision-making processes at the university. The university also does not neglect when implementing the review of study plans in its various faculties that they are suitable for people with special needs while maintaining the quality of the content of academic scientific programs.

Due to the importance of the environment being suitable for serving people with individual and collective special needs and preparing them from the first moments of joining the university, the university seeks to harness all its energies and potentials and its employees do their best to ensure that this is achieved.

 

Majmaah University's policy to support male and female students with special needs:

The university seeks to create an appropriate and attractive university environment for male and female students, especially those with special needs, through:

1. Cooperating with faculty members and staff to create the university environment in its various components so that they can fully perform their role at the university.

2. Evaluate male and female students based on their own abilities.

3. Promote and encourage the level of personal responsibility of students with special needs.

4. Providing the appropriate environment for students with special needs in all faculties of the university to provide them with the opportunity to enroll in the university's educational and social programs.

5. Provide an appropriate level of disability awareness to foster an inclusive university community.

6. Work on training university employees, especially those who have a direct link with students with special needs.

7. Attention to providing appropriate educational equipment for each student with special needs according to the type of disability to help them continue their university education.

8. Attention to training students with special needs on the appropriate educational equipment for their educational achievement.

9. Encouraging and motivating colleges, deanships and departments to support students with special needs by providing appropriate special services.

10. Ensure the confidentiality of the information they disclose about their disability, and not disclose it except in accordance with the regulations and instructions approved by the competent authorities.

11. Ensure that occupational safety and health procedures are comprehensive to the reality of the requirements of people with special needs.

The university's employees of all categories, including faculty members and employees, are committed to taking responsibility to ensure equality between students with special needs and their colleagues in all common aspects, and to perform their job duties without discrimination between them, and to seek to adopt a constructive management system that understands the behavior arising from disability that affects others in the classroom or work, and to create an atmosphere that helps students with special needs to approach them and discuss issues that affect their university studies.

Faculty members are committed to applying a flexible curriculum in response to the needs of this category of male and female students while maintaining the academic standards governing the educational materials entrusted to them, after coordination with the competent authorities, and the commitment to evaluate them based on their educational level and not on the degree of their disability.

Responsibilities of students with special needs:

The cooperation and sharing of responsibility for students with special needs to provide their means of support, and their willingness to discuss their specific requirements (with assistance if necessary) is a key pillar in the provision of individual and group services in a timely and timely manner, meaning that expressing an opinion on the equipment or means of education and assessing their suitability to their needs will be more useful for achieving an inclusive and appropriate university environment.

Where Ms. Ghadeer Al-Attiyah, Acting Head of the Disabled Students Unit, introduced the rights and duties of women with disabilities in colleges and the services provided by the university to this precious category. Students with disabilities participated in the meeting by presenting their experiences, ambitions and diligence.

Within the framework of the university's plan to interact with developmental events, the Social Responsibility Observatory, represented by the Special Needs Services Center and in partnership with the Department of Special Education at the College of Education in Majmaah, held a scientific symposium on the occasion of World Autism Day under the title (Awareness and Empowerment), in which many topics related to autism spectrum disorder were discussed and various facts about this disorder were clarified) as well as ways to deal with it, through the themes of the symposium, which were represented in four main axes: Early signs and indications of autism spectrum disorder, analysis of behavioral problems of children with autism, interventions based on scientific evidence and research, and finally established facts about this disorder .

Dr. Asmaa Al-Zahrani, Head of the Department of Special Education, Dr. Hajar Al-Mutlaq, Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education, Noura Al-Thumairy, and Arwa Al-Buraik - two students in the graduate program in the Department of Special Education - University, spoke at this symposium, and the symposium was moderated by Dr. Ayman Al-Suwaiyel, Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education, and under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Al-Zahrani, Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education, College of Education in Majmaah.

This seminar comes from the efforts of the Center for Services for People with Special Needs and the Department of Special Education at the College of Education in Majmaah in developing and enriching the field by providing knowledge and the latest development trends for society with regard to people with special needs, and activating the social responsibility of the university's employees, in addition to developing the skills and self-capabilities of the university employees and investing them in community service, in integration with all relevant university sectors.

Within the activities of the International Day of the Disabled, the University Vice-Rectorate, represented by the Department of University Environment and Occupational Health, organized a signing ceremony for the university's document to support students with special needs under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the University, and in the presence of university vice-rectors, deans of a number of supporting deanships, the dean of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, and directors of departments. At the beginning of the ceremony, the Vice President of the University, Dr. Muslim bin Muhammad Al-Dosari, explained that the university aspires to provide its services to all segments of society with high quality, and since people with special needs represent a group dear to our hearts and their motor or sensory disability of different degrees does not cancel their equality in rights and duties with their healthy counterparts, so the University Environment for All initiative came to support the achievement of equality between people with special needs and their fellow students. He also explained that the university is unique in our dear country in providing specialized transportation services for people with special needs in the stages of higher education, and that after the approval of His Excellency the President of the University, the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Learning adopted a project to provide electronic educational equipment for students with special needs in all faculties of the university, then the Director of the University Environment and Occupational Health Department, Mr. Abdulelah bin Abdullah Al-Mutairi, gave a presentation in which he explained that the university believes that disability occurs due to interaction between infected people. Motor or sensory deficits and barriers in the surrounding situations and environments that prevent their full and effective participation in their society on an equal basis with others, and that the basic principles on which this document was built were: 1- Equal opportunities 2- Accessibility 3- Supporting the abilities and skills of students with special needs. To achieve these principles, the University Vice-Rectorate, represented by the University Environment Department, launches the Access Portal for People with Special Needs, to be a window for all services and programs provided by the university authorities, which now includes a number of services, most notably the electronic form for developing the environment for people with special needs, which represents an easy window to communicate with university officials, and display any obstacles or difficulties they face in the university environment. It allows them to propose solutions to it, and the Innovation Center program and distinguished student ideas for people with special needs contributes to a distinguished effort in supporting this initiative, and the e-training platform has been completed, which is the result of cooperation with the College of Computer and Information Sciences represented by Mr. Muhammad bin Dhafer Al-Qahtani in the production of a number of electronic training courses to train people with special needs to take advantage of the characteristics of the Windows system to operate computers, Then the student Hassan bin Muqbil Al-Mutairi with special needs gave a speech in which he explained his aspirations with his colleagues to be a university environment initiative for all, and a document supporting people with special needs a reality we live in the university, to be partners for their healthy colleagues in building the country of science and knowledge, and after His Excellency the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, in a speech in which he pointed out that these efforts support the university's excellence in serving all segments of society, and supporting the project The university to obtain institutional accreditation, then His Excellency the President of the University gave a speech in which he indicated that the university's students with special needs are the elite of the university students, and their service is a duty for all those whoHis Excellency also pointed out that this initiative is the product of the efforts of the university's loyal sons who work silently with all diligence and diligence to serve the university, and achieve excellence and leadership for it, then His Excellency the President of the University and its agents signed the university's document to support students with special needs.
