Majmaah University is to hold on coming Wednesday a special ceremony for scientific excellence. This ceremony is an indicator of the university’s strong desire to appreciate the value of scientific research for upgrading the general quality performance via inspiring faculty members, researchers and students through competition as well as to award outstanding achievements, an attitude that will contribute in creating an environment conducive to improving scientific research.
The award was founded based on the directive of MU Rector, Dr. Khalid Al-Mugren and under the supervision and follow-up of Professor, Mohammed Al-Shaya’a, Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research and the sponsorship of Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Hugail.
The award seeks to create an environment conducive to excellent scientific research, innovation and creativity. The launch of the award is expected to serve the university strategic objectives, namely building competitive strategies to meet the needs of both labor market and knowledge society, improving academician’s abilities and skills, inculcating the university essential values such as innovation and creativity, achieving the university initiatives to have a supportive environment for faculty teaching and increasing research production.
The primary of aims of the award is to encourage faculty members and students to excel, innovate and compete; to upgrade the value of both scientific research and innovation in line with the priorities of development; to encourage faculty members and researchers to publish in high impact scholarly journals and periodicals; to encourage faculty members to disseminate knowledge internationally; to contribute in improving the university’s academic reputation and to initiate a leading role in the world and to highlight the importance of involving students in research.
The award comprises (9) categories:
First Category: Life-time Scientific Achievement Award: This award is granted to the scholar who has a long-standing academic achievement, not only in respect to research production but also the academic work and community service.
Second Category: Research Quality Award: This award is granted to the researcher who carries out original academic works.
Third Category: Publishing in Renowned Journals Award: This award is granted to 3 best published papers in renowned peer-reviewed journals or first-rate journals based on the average of impact factor.
Fourth Category: Inventions and Innovations Award: This award is granted to one research whose works have scientific value and are designated by scientific and health discoveries or invention and patents
Fifth Category: Entrepreneurship Project Award: After the entrepreneurship project is submitted, the idea of the project and its potential of being both invested and developed is evaluated. The project should serve the knowledge economy and can be turned into a practical model that can be marketed. The project should be presented as a business-model and the various stages as well as a feasible study must be included.
Sixth Category: Graduation Project Award: This award is granted to the best graduation project with innovative idea that solves a pressing problem.
Seventh Category: Best Authored and Translated Book Award: This award is granted to the best authored or translated book
Eighth Category: Reading Award: The aim of this award is to encourage undergraduate and post-graduate students to read and summarize books to develop their knowledge.
Ninth Category: Excellence in Postgraduate Studies: This award is granted to best postgraduate students who demonstrate excellent research skills.
Prof. Al-Shaya’a, Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies, is pleased to thank both MU Rector, Dr. Khalid Al-Mugren for his guidance and follow-up, and Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Hugail - the official sponsor of this award- for his vital role in serving the community via sponsoring this award which aims to highlight the value of scientific research.
An associated exhibition will be conducted to show the winning projects of faculty members, researchers and students.
