Majmaah University (MU) is preparing to host the 23rd summit of GCC rectors and directors of universities and education institutions, which will be held during the period from 16-17 October 2019. Several meetings were held by working teams to prepare for the summit which is deemed important and exceptional at GCC level.
The summit, held based on recommendations by the Secretariat General of GCC, aims to enhance cooperation among GCC states in the field of education by figuring out new means that will be of great benefit for students. It also intends to bring into effect the rules and regulations of GCC universities and higher education institutions with regard to students and faculty members exchange programs.
The vice-Rector, Prof. Musallam Al-Dosari, held a meeting with working committees to discuss all preparations pertinent to the summit including mechanism of work, task allocation, halls, list of participants, selection of chairmen of sessions and the plan of PR committee.
In recognition of the considerable efforts exerted to prepare for the summit, a number of participants in the summit have extended their thanks to MU for hosting this important event which is expected to have a positive impact on the progress of education in GCC, particularly related to higher education, human development and scientific research. They have also commended the collaboration between GCC universities to serve their community, stressing the importance of integration work set up between GCC universities more than any time.
The summit will be associated with the 10th symposium entitled “ GCC Universities and Human Development – Visions and Aspirations”. Among the topics to be addressed in the symposium is ‘governance in universities for human development’ which demonstrates GCC universities’ efforts to achieve goals of human development, plan study programs and majors to meet the demands of job market and the development of scientific research grant systems.
The symposium will also tackle the issue of universities’ future predication for the field of human development.
The summit and associated symposium are of great importance given the fact that the higher education system in the GCC countries has grown significantly in a short period of time, during which the number of universities have dramatically doubled all over the countries of GCC. This has enabled many of GGC citizens to receive high-quality of education even those who reside in small-scale cities and remote governorates. This huge expansion of service-delivery requires constant monitoring so as not to be at the expense of the quality of educational output.
To that end, this summit is expected to study the implications of that expansion on the community needs in general and the job market in particular.
MU was selected to host and organize this summit based on its late exceptional achievements in administrative and academic fields as well as its proven success in holding several meetings and symposiums locally and internationally.
