MU RESEARCH TEAM FILES A PATENT FOR A SAFETY PILLOW THAT MONITORS INDIVIDUALS IN VEHICLES AND INSTITUTIONS

A research team from Majmaah University, in cooperation with some public sectors, filed a patent at King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology for a safety pillow designed to monitor individuals in vehicles and institutions.
The aim of this invention, which is the first of its kind, is to solve a frequent problem of students who are left unnoticed in bus and die of suffocation as the bus driver does not realize they are on bus. An invention of such kind has become a necessity to tackle this recurrent problem by applying the highest standards of safety. The team invented a thermal reader with specific codes associated with a comprehensive, accurate and wireless surveillance system that monitors the presence of individuals.
The research team comprised several academicians of MU and other institutions headed by the Vice-Rector, Prof. Musallam Al-Dosari.
By applying this invention at some buses for test, it will be considered a scientific leap and is expected to be adopted in the safety system of the Ministry of Education.
A prototype of the invention was adopted at MU to monitor four seats with a central monitoring unit, which will be shown in several conferences locally, regionally and internationally.
