Based on the directives of MU Rector, Dr. Khalid Al-Muqren, a delegation of MU - lead by the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Mohammed Al-Shaya’a – participated in a workshop on the methodology of developing scientific research strategies at universities.
Inaugurated by the undersecretary for research and creativity, Dr. Nasser Al-Aqily on behalf of the Deputy-Minister of Education, the workshop addressed the institutional funding program for universities research and development as a philosophical shift proposed by the Ministry of Education to universities in the Kingdom. The workshop also aims to support the shift away from funding individuals to funding entities and sustainable models; from general to private funding and from measuring outcomes to measuring impact.
The Undersecretary said that the Ministry of Education strives to collaborate with universities to build up a sustainable system that can support universities to have economic, social and human value.
King Faisal University Rector, Dr. Mohammed Al-Awhali, presented a paper entitled “Developing the Institutional Identities of Universities” which addressed the concept and goals of institutional identities of universities as a major catalyst for resources and contribute in creating a stereotype of universities.
Many sessions and working papers were presented by experts in research creativity centers inside and outside the Kingdom to contribute in encouraging universities to meet their national needs and reformulate their scientific research strategies to keep up with the current rapidly development embraced by the Kingdom.
Prof. Al-Shaya’a, Vice-Rector, said the effective participation of MU in this workshop indicates the overall tendency of the university work out a new mechanism of work based on a defined strategic plan and future vision that aim to match between the new system of the university with the Kingdom’s Vision.
