MU’S TEAM WINS THE STARTUP WEEKEND ONLINE: UNITE TO FIGHT COVID-19

The Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the first-ever Startup Weekend Online: Unite to Fight Covid-19 in the country in cooperation with Techstars and Google.
A massive group of 800+ innovators attended the event as they craft sustainable solutions to tackle the pandemic.
The goal of the event is to bring together the smartest minds alongside Saudi Arabian thought leaders to find solutions and adaptations to address the global pandemic.
The event took place July 9-11, with the participation of innovators, mentors, and investors from around the world.
Attendees were allowed to form complementing teams who will each present their demo or prototype as they work with their mentors.
The top 10 winners will each receive a $5,000 prize to help develop each idea further.
Two teams have represented MU which includes: Ayman al-Barakati (PhD), a faculty at College of Computer Science and Information, Nora al-Naghmishy, a teaching assistant at College of Science in Zulfi and the following students from College of Science in Zulfi: Nora al-Manea, Hessah al-Shaalani, Nora al-Turaiqi, Areej al-Salem, Shaden al-Qanwah.
‘Tryout’ team, under the supervision of Dr. al-Barakati, and the participation of the following students: Nora al-Manea, Hessah al-Shaalani, Nora al-Turaiqi, Wafa al-Balawi (Tabuk University) and Rawan al-Issa (King Faisal University).
The basic idea of the team is to have a platform that virtually offer mental and therapy exercises to trainees as well as linking them with physiotherapy experts and trainers.
The head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, Dr. Saeed Banwas, extended his thanks to MU Rector, Dr. Khalid al-Muqren, for prompting faculty members and students to take part in such events that develop their ideas.
