In the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) joint academic work, Majmaah University has participated in the 22nd Meeting of the leaders of universities and institutions of higher education in the GCC countries, hosted by King Khalid University from 30 to 31 of October, 2016.
Majmaah representation was headed by the University Rector, Dr. Khalid Al-Muqrin.
Furthermore, the Vice-rector of Majmaah University, Dr. Mosallam Al-Dousari, participated in the preparatory meeting of the vice-rectors of higher institutions in the GCC countries, which preceded the meeting of the rectors and leaders.
The participants discussed the agenda of the Committee at this meeting, which included a number of important and critical issues in the GCC joint academic work.
Discussions also took place concerning the Supreme Council decision to adopt vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques regarding the strengthening of the GCC joint action, the decision of the Supreme Council on the equality of the people of the GCC countries in admission and treatment at the universities and institutions of public higher education as well as the decisions of the 18th Meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the GCC countries. They also discussed the paper and the State of Qatar on joint investment in education.
The participants also deliberated the strategic plan for cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research in the Gulf Cooperation Council in addition to a number of topics on the agenda of the meeting, including international cooperation, and the Gulf Database of information (the Bridge), along with the award for excellence in the design and development of e-courses, committees joint action and finally the mechanism of awards organization.
The leaders issued their appropriate recommendations and decisions, which will be submitted to the Committee of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the GCC countries for subsequent joint actions.
The University also participated in the 9th Scientific Symposium, which was held on the sidelines of this meeting, which was entitled "The Mechanisms of the Link between Scientific Research and Industry".
The seminar discussed a number of proposed papers on the following aspects:
1- Transition to a knowledge-based economy by linking universities and industry.
2- The role of public sector represented by the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources in linking universities and industry.
3- Universities and research agencies experimenting with the industrial sector.
4- Challenges and obstacles faced by the partnerships between universities and industry and ways to solve them.
5- The creation of universities and industry output in accordance with the labor market requirements.
At the conclusion of the meeting of the Committee, the heads and directors of GCC universities have accepted the invitation of Majmaah University Rector Dr. Khalid Al-Muqrin to host the 23rd meeting of the Committee of Rectors and Directors of Universities and Higher Education Institutions of the GCC countries in addition to the Preparatory Meeting of the Vice-rectors and Deputy Head of Higher Education Institutions as well as the tenth associated Scientific Symposium of the 23meeting.
The members expressed their appreciation for the good initiatives of the university in this regard.
