6th National Week of Creativity

Sponsored by the Dean of the College of Education in Zulfi, the Unit of Community Service at the College of Education in Zulfi participated in the sixth National Week of Creativity, which took place in the Sports Hall attached to the 14th Primary School in Zulfi. The event has been carried out under the follow-up of the Vice-dean for Graduate Studies Dr. Saad Al-Mahmoud and supervision of Dr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Elwi- Head of Community Service Unit at the College. The Section of Gifted Learners at the Department of Education in Zulfi organized the activities from 24 to 27/05/1437 in support of a fruitful community service and enhancing Majmaah university role in the community. The Unit took part in the event in the form of training corners over 2 consecutive days when several activities and workshops were held. The first day- Sunday 26/05/1437 Ah.- included a workshop entitled ‘My Mind is My Wealth’. The purpose of the workshop, aimed at the visiting students, was to promote the culture of innovation and encourage positive thinking from an early age through the development of reading programs. A workshop entitled (Skills of Dealing with Talented Students) was held on the second day. This workshop targeted teachers and purported the introduction of gifted students and ways of discovering them along with the types of service that should be provided to them at school, home or community. Additionally, the training sessions- delivered by Dr. Mona Tawakol, Assistant professor of Psychology and Member of the Unit of Community Service- addressed the problems encountered by talented students as well as ways to overcome those issues. The workshop recommended the need to keep track of the latest developments in the field to support gifted students and facilitate their economic valuable innovations that can be invested in the development of national economy. Furthermore, it was stressed that there must be coordination with universities, research centers, along with holding partnerships with relevant institutions concerned with creativity in order to develop human capital of this country. Moreover, there is still a need to guide gifted students and those who work in that field and take advantage of the media in spreading awareness of creativity and innovation in addition to the provision of programs and resources encouraging creativity. Dr. Salwa Hammad- Professor of Instruction and Methodology of Kindergarten students- gave another workshop on the development of academic concepts among the kindergarten students. The activity targeted kindergarten students visiting the exhibition along with their teachers. In this workshop, children were trained to use creative thinking strategies. Several student projects aimed at children creativity were presented at the exhibition to show examples of innovation and spread the culture of creativity. The activities of the College gained the admiration of the visitors and the organizing department represented by Ms. Nora Al-Farhood and Asmaa Al-Fehid- Head of the Section of Gifted Learners in Zulfi.
