LECTURE ON THE ROLE OF THE UNIVERSITY IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The role of the University in Community Development. Presented by Dr. Hamed Al-Sayed Abdo. Sunday 05/03/1438 AH. The lecture targeted the Mathematics Department female students and was presented with the participation of the Community Service Unit at the college, in the female sections of main building. About the lecture: it draws the students’ attention to the importance of the university's geographical location and its correlation to community development, and invites them to discuss the subject. Objectives: raising the issue of community service in the department, activating it by faculty members and implementing it by students. Preparation stages: 1. Identify the subject of the lecture and its topics. 2. Identifying the research sources and means of preparation. 3. Preparing achievement setting. Achievement stage: 1. Starting the lecture. 2. Introducing the subject, its topics and objectives. 3. Presenting the topics of the subject. 4. Leading a discussion and coming up with recommendations. Title: The role of the University in Community Development. Topics: the subject of the lecture is divided into four topics: 1. The importance of the university’s geographical location. 2. The development of the mission of the university. 3. The relationship between the university and the community. 4. How the university develops the community. Summary: The geographical location of the university covers the provinces between Qassim and Riyadh, and provides high school graduates from various towns and villages with higher education. And since the communities in the region are the reason behind the establishment of the university, its sole purpose has to be serving those communities. In the past, the mission of the university was to meet the needs of the community. However, if we look at the current mission of the university on its website, we’ll find that it is to achieve sustainable development. This means that the university has achieved self-sufficiency of infrastructures and is now seeking to develop the community in order to achieve sustainable development, in service of this beloved country. The University's relationship with society lies in the provision of personnel that serves it; from students graduating and assuming different professions to faculty members with their research and innovation. Therefore, it was imperative that the university develops the communities around it. Community development lies in the preparation of students in various aspects, not only academic, but also all other aspects that can make a graduate stand out in the community with his social activities and participation in voluntary work. Faculty members also have their role in community development; both with their research and by supervising developmental projects that provide solutions to realistic problems and serve the community. Organizing the lecture: The topics of the lecture were presented in their allotted time, ending with a fruitful discussion that led to several recommendations. Additional means of implementation: Taking advantage of scientific literature and relevant websites, Hall 41 in the college main building. Results: 1. Conviction for the need to engage in community service. 2. Aiming to open math classes at memorization centers to spread knowledge of mathematics. In conclusion the presenter of the lecture extended his thanks to the audience for their fruitful participation and urged everyone to unite in developing community service at the department.
