The Third Function of University
Dr. Omaima Nour happy Date: 20/7/1438 Location: Hall 38 Target group: faculty members + female students Objectives 1- Identifying the functions of a university. 2- Distinguishing between community responsibility and partnership. 3- Encouraging students to be involved in community service during their university study. Dr. Omaima mentioned the three functions of a university, namely education, scientific research and community service. She claimed that most universities do not care much about the third function i.e. community service. Then she mentioned the difference between community responsibility and community partnership, as the latter shows the role of the university in society. “The student can serve her community in various aspects such as taking part in Quran memorization societies, education of the elderly and kindergartens as well as contributing to small community projects.”, she concluded.
