“Body Defense System”

Organized by the Student Unit at the College of Science and Humanities in Hawtet Sedeir, a lecture entitled “Body Defense System” was given by Dr. Eman Mahmoud- Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the College. The lecture addressed various defense lines in the human body that enable the immune system to fight off any viral or bacterial infection immediately after it enters the body, protecting it from diseases and infections. “Such defense lines are all natural; some of them are secreted by the human body such as perspiration and tears, where others are just there to protect us against any harm like the skin or the chemical elements in the blood,” Dr. Eman said. The skin of the body is the first line of defense that helps in fending off microbes or germs before they enter the body. Dr. Eman added, “Our skin is like the first line of the army in battle, where any aggression is pushed back; that’s exactly how millions of microbes and bacteria can’t enter our body easily”. Dr. Eman went on saying, “Several other lines are made inside the body as a reaction to a microbe or bacterial invasion such as perspiration and tears. “Also, among the various immunity elements created in our bodies are the mucous secreted by the respiratory epithelium, which functions as a barrier to pathogens and foreign particles, preventing infection and tissue injury; the degree of acidity made in the Digestive System, and the chemicals in the blood that kills any penetrating foreign bodies,” Dr. Eman concluded.
