A meeting with students on the list of Academic Advising in the English Department was held on Wednesday 18/11/1436 H. within the activities of the Academic Advising program. Students were called to the meeting via phone messages and the release of students’ names lists. The date was announced on the bulletin boards of the department and through posters hang on the office of the Academic advising Unit. The faculty members Mr. Salim Abdul-Hadi, Mr. Ahmed Nimr Al-Nouafla and Dr. Othman Al-Taieb conducted the meeting where they discussed the academic status of students, their records as well as their cumulative averages and the reasons why some of them had low averages in previous terms. The agenda of the meeting included also rubrics on encouraging students to strengthen their averages and identifying their rights as students when communicating with the teaching staff members. Students had also a clear idea on their professors office hours and were reminded that these hours are planned for the sake of the student so that he or she could contact the teacher of the subject whenever he or she faces a difficulty or needs any clarification on some points they found difficult to understand during the lecture. Each student had then his study plan explained in face to face talks basically the compulsory, specialty and optional subjects. Students were asked to pay more attention to some specialized subjects being the major in their field. The meeting highlighted also the need for students during the week of dropping and adding subjects at the beginning of each semester to refer to their academic advisors to make sure that every student is following his study plan. Such step will solve many of the previous problems that were the reason behind graduation delay for some students, compared with their mates who succeeded their study plans in due times.
