A delegation from the Student Support Unit, represented by Dr. Jalal Al-Bashir, Dr. Awadallah Ja’afar and Dr. Alaa Merwad, visited on Thursday 01.09.1437 AH. the Counseling and Student Rights Unit at the College of Education in Majmaah. The delegation was received at the office of the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs by the members of the Counseling and Student Rights Unit, including Dr. Abdul Baqi Arafa, Dr. Naaman AlAsmar, Dr. Sir Alkhatim Mohammed Ahmed and Dr. Mustafa Faruk. They reviewed the academic plans, files as well as the most important programs and activities carried out by the Academic Advising Unit at the college. They also listened to a detailed explanation on how Academic Advising Unit is run and how to fulfill the crucial role of the academic adviser at the college. The following are the results of the visit: 1. The “Student Support Unit” is to be changed to the “Academic Advising Unit”, and to be affiliated with the Deputyship of Educational Affairs. 2. the Counseling and Student Rights Unit is responsible for the academic, psychological, social and student rights issues; 3. the unit administration is to make an action plan for each semester and distribute it to the academic departments to be put into practice under the supervision of the unit; also, the plan’s programs and activities are distributed over a period of 15 weeks; 4. preparing an academic advising office and a weekly counseling timetable, where each faculty member must devote an hour a week to answer any inquiries from the students of his department; 5. giving each adviser a group from his students to supervise them. 6. rewarding the best academic adviser in the college; an award is announced at the beginning of each semester and is received at the end of the semester; the Counseling Unit is responsible for this. 7. one of the most active roles of the Counseling and Student Rights Unit at the College of Education in Majmaah is the activation of the electronic file and Whatsapp groups. 8. presenting the most important courses provided by the unit last year: rules and regulations, admission and registration, student denials and excuses, calculation of the university GPA, students shyness, exam stress, self-development, time management, self-confidence, leadership, and self-management. The recommendations and suggestions of the visit: 1. merging the Student Support Unit, previously affiliated with the Deputyship for Educational Affairs, with the Counseling and Student Rights Unit that, previously affiliated with the Deputyship for Student Affairs, into one unit under the name of “Counseling and Students Rights Unit”. 2. distributing the plan of the Academic Advising Unit to the academic departments to be implemented under the supervision of the unit. 3. preparing an academic advising office where the academic departments’ faculty members must exist according to a weekly timetable. 4. following up the academic advisers by the Counseling and Student Rights Unit to ensure the activation of the electronic files. At the end of the visit, the delegation thanked the members of the Counseling and Student Rights Unit and invited them to visit the Student Support Unit.
