Under the supervision of the Academic advising coordinator Dr. Zohour M. Al Fadel, English Department's Advising Unit held a workshop for academically outstanding female students who got 4.5/5 and above at the reception hall. The workshop was attended by the faculty Vice-Rector for Students Affairs, the department coordinator, faculty members and a number of the department's female students. The workshop presented by the students Roa'a Al-Tayeb and Maram Al-Mughamiz. It began with the recitation of the Holy Qura'an by the student Amira Al-Hanafi, followed by a speech of the faculty Vice Rector for female students departments Ms. Maha A. Al-Lifan congratulating the outstanding female students, assuring the importance of excellence in all life areas, and urging students to benefit of these success stories to improve their academic performance. After that, the department coordinator Dr. Zainab A. Mohammed delivered a speech where she praised the students for their excellence and high morals, pointing to the productive cooperation between the students and the faculty members, and urging the outstanding students to help their weak colleagues improving their academic performance. The Department coordinator for Academic Advising Dr. Zohour M, Al-Fadel thanked the outstanding students for their cooperation in helping their weak colleagues improving their academic performance, and urged the weak students to do their best to benefit from the success stories to promote themselves academically. She concluded her speech by summarizing the workshop targets and explaining the Academic Advising role in helping the students. Afterwards, the outstanding students talked revealing the secrets of their success such as regular punctuality, scheduling daily studying and homework time, and seeking the help of the course professor and the academic adviser if necessary. The program was concluded by rewarding the 25 outstanding female students by displaying their names on the honor board and distributing certificates.The Student Support Unit held a Training program entitled “Academic Achievement and underachievement-Problems and solutions” in the Reception Hall in collaboration with the Training Unit. Dr. Ahmad Yaseen- Coordinator of the Unit- talked about the importance of academic achievement and the reasons of underachievement in addition to the solutions and results. The head of Department, Dr. Murad Shaboul urged students to work hard to achieve high performance, And that doors are open to the students of the Department to treat any problems faced by students or help them study more effectively. He explained that the educational process is based on cooperation between the student and faculty member to overcome all the problems. Mr. Firas Kaddoura then talked about the reasons for underachievement, the GPA, how to overcome the problem of low GPA as well as other recurring problems of students. Later he answered all student queries. Around 40 students attended the workshop; 8 high achievers and 3 underachievers have participated with a worksheet Several problems and solutions were put forward by the students, and there were various recommendations at the end of the session.
