The Applied College held the First Reading Forum in Zulfi Branch to improve students' general-knowledge and develop their intellectual and creative skills.
Many students participated in the 2-day forum which featured activities that focus on the importance of reading and its role in building a well-educated generation.
The forum was held in the presence of the Executive Director, Dr. Muzna Al-Bahlal, and the Supervisor of Student Activities, Dr. Rahab Al-Wazza. A group of advocates in education moderated a dialogue session entitled "The Impact of Reading on Self-Development". The session highlighted the advocates' personal experiences in reading and how books can contribute to expanding individuals' horizons and enhancing their self-confidence.
The importance of reading as a basic habit in an individual's life was also highlighted including the scientific, social and psychological benefits.
Multiple booths were set up to showcase books that included a wide range of diverse books in literature, science, history, engineering, technology, and self-development. The students were given the opportunity to browse the books and choose what suits their interests. The students were divided into groups to read excerpts from the books and discuss their content.
The forum activities also included a workshop on "Speed Reading Skills and Effective Comprehension", presented by one of the specialized trainers, and aimed to teach the students how to improve their reading speed while increasing their level of understanding.
The "First Reading Forum" is an extension of the efforts of the Applied College to promote knowledge and creativity among the students, and reflects its keenness to build a comprehensive educational environment that supports intellectual and cultural development, within the framework of the "Knowledge and Creativity Garden" programs that aim to hone the skills of the students and qualify them to be able to positively influence society.
