Under the patronage of the Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Muhammad Al-Shehri, the Intellectual Awareness Unit held a symposium entitled: "Women and their Role in Confronting Extremism".
The symposium was moderated by Dr. Nawal Al-Musnad, who welcomed everyone and highlighted the great importance of such seminars in instilling the right values. The first speak was Dr. Sumaya Al-Zahrani, and the focus of her talk was on the origin of the concept of extremism and women’s relationship with it. She also mentioned the factors of women’s response to extremism as well as how to confront such factors. Dr. Al-Zahrani concluded her talk by highlighting the efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia fight extremism.
The second speaker was Dr. Amjad Al-Rabiah, and the topic of her talk was: "The important role of women in building societies and nations". The speaker addressed the social roles of women and their role in confronting extremism.
Dr. Aisha Al-Bakri talked about role of women in confronting extremism, global openness, intellectual invasion, and the satellite channels in spreading such ideas. The speaker also pointed out the importance of good dialogue in enhancing communication, the impact of social media on extremism, and the importance of protecting women from such ideas. She also addressed the responsibility of women in society, and their participation in institutions and committees to combat extremism.
A Q&A session was conducted followed a concluding speech by Dr. Nawal Al-Musned who called for inculcating national values in youths.
