The Role of Scientific Research in Community Service

Dr. Abeer Abdolsadiq Mohammad Badawi, an associate professor of Literature and Criticism at the Arabic Language Department. Date: 01/06/1437 AH. Target group: faculty members. Objectives: - to address the importance of local community development. - The important role of scientific research in community development. - Directing studies and scientific research to community service. This modern age with all of its exciting developments depends on scientific research, and despite of all of its technological achievements in realizing humanity's dreams and overcoming all obstacles, we can but only rely on ourselves in order to raise our intellectual level and advance technology in all areas. Therefore, in order for this vision to be realized, we must: First, link our way of thinking and planning with the nation's policies towards supporting and developing our capabilities, and channeling resources to the service of local, developmental and scientific issues. Second, since developmental scientific research cannot be achieved through the efforts of individuals, it must come from the needs of the community, therefore, the university should strive to adopt a strategy of scientific research in order to advance development in its communities, and rely on the scientific community itself in solving its own obstacles and advance development. Third, in order for the University to do its part, a direct link to the beneficiary must be established first, and to its higher authorities as well, which is for the sake of planning and research, such as research centers, and production and service region specific appliances. All of which is to contribute to the University's positive aspects, and maximize capacity utilization and scientific potential in the region through specific programs intended to serve developmental issues that primarily rely in its implementation on well-trained personnel in universities, and on cooperation with research centers and specialized institutions in the country.
