Under the sponsorship of the College Dean, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsen Al Abdulkarim, Vice Dean for Educational Affairs Dr. Saleh bin Ahmed Dahash moderated a workshop titled: “ Academic Counseling Week” on 10/23/2018, at the engineering clubs’ hall. The workshop was attended by faculty members from all academic departments which is one of a series of workshops and educational lectures aiming to introduce faculty members to the development of academic counseling process and its implementation according to the academic accreditation requirements, and the best tips for a better study schedule. Vice Dean for educational Affairs began the workshop by welcoming the attending faculty members and encouraged them to participate in the series of training workshops regarding academic counseling to meet the standards of academic accreditation. The coordinator of the unit of academic counseling Dr. Yazeed Qassaymeh and Dr. Osama Abdelaal stressed the importance of introducing Academic Counseling to students, and its significant role in enhancing the student’s academic performance. They explained in details the elements of academic counseling, methods of activating academic counseling, and how to encourage students to activate the academic counseling along their academic path. Schedules and examinations were explained in details by Dr. Ahmed Jalal who highlighted the academic counselor duties and responsibilities, the academic counseling tools, and ways to encourage students to meet their academic counselors. He stated that the college facilitated the academic counseling process through the academic counseling’s website; where the counselor finds the students’ names and data when he accesses his electronic portal. He stressed that it is essential to assemble the students’ courses in two academic levels to avoid the academic schedules’ problems that might be caused for both student and the faculty member. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Ahmed Jalal stressed that students should count on academic counselor as his only reliable source for information about study plans. The vice-dean for educational affairs Dr. Saleh Ahmed Al-Dahesh, and members of the unit of academic counseling answered the attendants' questions, who praised the benefits of attending this workshop, and emphasized the importance of organizing such workshops for their positive effects in enhancing the competence of lecturers and academic counselors.
