A Workshop Entitled “Educational Affairs: the Present and Prospective”

The Faculty vice Deanship for Educational Affairs organized a workshop entitled “Educational Affairs: Present and Prospective” on Wednesday 8/4/1436 corresponding with 28/1/2015 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm in the presence of the faculty Dean and a big number of the teaching staff. The workshop included a number of axes; the most important are: the first axe: the educational process; first: the student: the present: the weakness of the mechanism the student apply to choose their suitable speciality. The student comes from school with very poor education, the percentage of absence is so high especially in the final examinations week, not punctual about the classes timings and tardiness, the student is not familiar with the new things about their specialities and applications. Prospective: setting rules and conditions for choosing the suitable department. Organizing a plenty of training courses for students. Canceling the make-up examinations unless there is an acceptable excuse. Defining a specific time a student is not allowed to enter classes after. Adding a preparatory year for departments. Second: teaching staff: the present: teacher is not committed to one speciality. A lot of administrative and technical work (admin load). University suitable environment is not available. Administrative plans and methodologies are not clear. The number of students increases compared to the teaching staff members. The acceptable level of students is weak especially language level. Prospective: taking care of the standard of qualified cadre (Qualification, experience, academic and educational continuity). Being committed to one speciality in teaching is in favor of students. Reducing the administrative load of the teaching staff so a teacher will get more time for academic duties. Preparing university environment and academic stability. Organizing training courses for teaching staff members. Third: The educational curriculums; Present: unavailability of references in English and Arabic. The number of students are so big compared to the number of teaching staff. There is not a specific program for final examinations dates. The academic plans are not clear and very poor, so are the curriculums. The problems of education via internet of interaction and information delivery. Prospective: Providing references. Placing students in sections in a manner that matches with the number of teaching staff. Making a specific program for the final examinations dates. Exact description should be created for the textbooks. Forth: The educational environment: Present: the halls sometimes do not match with the number of students specifically during examinations days. The library is very small and a plenty of references are not available. The educational environment is not available ( halls, laboratories, offices, digital library). There is not parking lot for the teaching staff’s cars. There is not a cafeteria for teaching staff. There are no offices for teaching staff. There is no places for student activities (theater and playground ) Prospective: The halls should be suitable for the number of students especially during examinations days. The library should be takes care of and more references must be provided. The availability of educational environment ( halls, laboratories, offices, digital library ). A parking lot for the teaching staff should be provided. Establishing a cafeteria for the teaching staff. The availability of teaching staff offices. Creating places for student activities ( theater and playground ). The second axe: Assessment and Evaluation. Prospective: taking care of academic advising in every department. Students evaluation forms for the examinations and curriculums. The percentage of students attendance for lectures. How to make examinations and distribute exam papers. The general average of academic attainment (passing mark for every course). A workshop at the beginning of every semester on assessment and evaluation and academic regulations. Taking care of library hours. Providing communication methods between students and teachers. The third axe: The excellent and professional teaching staff member award. In fact, the excellent and professional teaching staff member has been launched in accordance with specific criteria. The forth axe: community service: displaying social work of the faculty in communication with Hootat Sadeer community and the neighboring areas. Defining training needs for the community (institutions, establishments, schools, societies…etc).
