- The Unit of Student Activities represented by the coordinator of scientific workshops Dr. Ahmad Abdessattar and in collaboration with the Training Unit in the college organized a workshop entitled" Fast Reading in English". The workshop took place on Monday 16/2/1437 AH – 13/3/2016 in the ceremonies hall and was conducted by Mr. Hussein AL Batayna. The speaker talked about a number of ways which seek to increase the reading speed rates without compromising the understanding or memorization. The speaker defined also the most important problems which affect the reader such as: 1. Pre-reading problems which can be summarized as follows: a. not determining the appropriate time. b. the community fallacy (reading is not a hobby, it is rather a need.) c.Reading time. Parkinson Law. d. Ideas (what do I read? Why do I read?) 2. While-reading problems which can be summarized as follows. a. Internal articulation. b. repeating lines. C. word by word. D. not setting targets. E. losing the thread. F. absent-mindedness. Having defined the problems the speaker presented many ideas related to the skill of reading. Students were trained on some sub-skills such as preparing the book to be read, appropriate seating, preparing the setting in terms of light, heat and distractions. By the end of the workshop the speaker gave the floor to the audience to ask questions and make commentaries which were all answered and discussed.
