Under the patronage of the Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Mohammad Al-Shehri, and in the presence of the Dean of the College of Education, Prof. Abdulaziz Al-Othman, the College of Education, in cooperation with the Intellectual Awareness Unit, organized a symposium on volunteer work.
The symposium began with a welcoming speech by the Dean of the College who pointed out that the spirit of volunteer work is in our nature as human being and that volunteer work is a way to solve many of our societal problems. At the same time, it supports the goals of sustainable development.
Prof. Sultan Al-Tawala - a faculty member at the College of Sharia and Law and supervisor of the University's Inheritance Chair - talked about the volunteer work and addressed four topics including the concept of volunteering, its importance and its position in the Kingdom's Vision 2030. He concluded his talk by saying that volunteer work is the approach of the prophets.
This was followed by a speech delivered by Prof. Faisal Al-Mutairi, Supervisor of the Office of the Vice-Rector for Development and Investment and Expert in Applications of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, who talked about the rooting the concept within the framework of development. He explained the Kingdom's empowerment of volunteer work and its leadership in this development aspect. He pointed out that volunteer work is one of the most important enablers of development, and the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in development are of high value and exceed many countries.
At the end of the symposium, a Q&A session was held which was moderated by the Vice Dean of the College of Education for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. AbdulKarim Al-Harbi, and was attended by the Head of the Intellectual Awareness Unit, Dr. Khalid Al Nasser.
