Dr. Asma Al-Anazi, the Vice-Dean of Student Affairs participated at the first meeting of centers, departments, divisions and units for people with disabilities in Saudi universities which was held at Umm Al-Qura University.
The meeting featured fruitful discussion and suggestions about challenges and innovative solutions to improve the experience of students with disabilities, and adopting a future vision to ensure their integration and empowerment in the academic community.
One of the recommendations made at the end of this meeting: developing admission procedures at Saudi universities to facilitate application and determining the major for students with disabilities. Another one is to develop a system to automate the provision of support and services. The meeting also agreed on creating a database to classify students with disabilities and updating it periodically as well as developing partnerships with the private sector and relevant entities.
Among the recommendations also is standardizing the terminology used for student clubs that care for students with disabilities under the name (Students with Disabilities Club), and creating and developing executive guides for services provided to students with disabilities at the university.
The issue of employment of students with disabilities and graduates was also discussed along with conducting courses and programs according to the needs of students with disabilities to hone their skills.
