Within the activities of the International Day for the Disabled, the General Department of University Environment and Occupational Health represented Rectorship to organize the ceremony of approving the Students with Special Needs support, the ceremony was inaugurated by the Rector, and attended by the Vice Rectors at the University, and the Deans of the Deanships, support, and the Dean of Computer Science and Information Technology college, and the Heads of Departments. At the beginning of the ceremony, HE the Vice Rector Dr. Musallam bin Mohammed Al-Dosari, explained that the university aims to provide its services to all parts of society with high quality, and where the people with special needs, represent valued category to our us, and that their motor or sensory inability does not eliminate the equality in rights and duties with their healthy counterparts. So, the initiative of “A campus environment for everyone” was made to support the equality among people with special needs and their colleagues of other students, and access the suitable campus environment for those with special needs, according to the international standards. HE noted that the Agreement approval aims to achieve effective measures in environments that maximize academic and social growth, and achieve the full integrative goal, and provide easy-access services and information, and promote the training of the university employees to work with students with special needs, and promote the awareness of the students with special needs capabilities contributions, HE explained the university policy to achieve this initiative on the ground, and be one of the pillars and practices to the completion of all its transactions. Also, HE explained that the university is unique in the availability of specialized transportation services for people with special needs in higher education, and that after the approval of HE the Rector the Deanship of e-learning and distance learning adopted the project to provide educational electronic facilities for students with special needs in all colleges of the university. Then, the Director of the Academic Environment Department and Occupational Health Abdul-Ilah bin Abdullah Al-Mutairi made a presentation that stated that the university believes that disability is caused by the interaction between persons with motor or sensory disabilities and surrounding barriers that hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others, and that the basic principles upon which this agreement relays; are: 1. fair opportunities 2. access 3. support the capabilities and skills of students with special needs. And to achieve these principles the university Rectorship represented in the General Department of University Environment and Occupational Health launched an e-portal access for special needs students; to provide all the services and programs offered by the university, which now includes a number of services, most notably electronic form for the development of people with special needs environment, which represents an easy way to communicate with the university officials, and displays any obstacles or difficulties they face in the university environment, it allows them to propose solutions to obstacles or difficulties. Also, the Innovation Center and Outstanding Ideas of students with Special Needs contributes to support this initiative. Also, training e-podium has been completed, which is a collaboration with the college of Computer Science the information represented in Dr. Mohammed Bin Dhafer Al-Qahtani to produce a number of e-training courses to train people with special needs to take advantage of Windows system properties computers. Then Hassan bin Muqbel Al-Mutairi, a student with special needs gave a speech in which he expressed his aspirations with his colleagues to have a campus environment initiative for All, and a realistic agreement that supports people with special needs at the university; to be partners with other colleagues in constructing the country science and knowledge. After that, His Excellency the Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya gave a speech in which he pointed out that these efforts support the excellence of the University in serving all parts of society, and support the university project for institutional accreditation. Then the HE the Rector gave a word that the special needs students at the university are elite students, and their service is a duty at the university, and that all the university departments must cooperate to achieve an a attractive academic environment supportive of excellence and innovation, struggling to find solutions to the encountered obstacles. Also, his Excellency pointed out that this initiative is a result of the University faithful youngsters who work silently very hard to serve the university, and to achieve excellence and leadership. Then the Rector and the Vice Rectors signed the agreement, and gave a souvenir to the student Hassan bin Muqbel Al-Mutairi, and then the Rector inaugurated the e-portal on the university website to be a mean of communication between the university and those with special needs, that offers a number of relevant interest and services for this category.
