The College’s Vice-Dean's Office for Educational Affairs and Development, represented by the Graduate Affairs Unit, and in cooperation with the College of Education (Department of English Language), conducted a training course entitled “Modern Theories in Translation, Semantic Translation, and Communicative Translation,”.

The course was presented by Ms. Sarah Al-Farraj for translation students, professors and practitioners. The course presenter addressed the translation strategies presented by the famous theorist in translation science, Professor Peter Newmark, including a number of his suggested techniques to address the problems of translation in general, and the problems of translating cultural elements in particular.

The differences between the two strategies were also reviewed, including their importance and suitability for different types of translated texts along with examples from Arabic and English.

The course aimed to introduce trainees to the various theories presented in the field of translation science with a particular focus on semantic and communicative theory. The course also focused on developing trainees’ skills through hands-on training.

The course ended with a Q&A session and the trainees were suggested a number of references.
