The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit holds a workshop entitled: Sustainable Innovation in Chemistry

The Vice-Dean's Office for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, represented by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit, organized, in cooperation with the Department of Industrial Chemistry, a workshop entitled: Sustainable Innovation in Chemistry.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Manahil Babiker, who introduced chemistry science in the design of experimental products and processes as it reduces the use and production of hazardous materials. Chemistry also studies the effects of chemical pollutants, ways to prevent pollution, reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources, and focus on the sustainable technological approach.

Sustainability is important to achieve a balance between the economic, environmental and social dimensions to meet current needs. It also improves manufacturing processes, reduce harmful environmental impacts by developing more sustainable processes and products, develop environmentally friendly manufacturing processes, reduce carbon emissions, and improve the management of water, energy and chemical resources.

Sustainable product development plays an important role in achieving sustainability in the design of chemical components to be more effective and sustainable in the use of resources such as the use of biodegradable packaging materials, recycling to reduce waste, enhancing environmental and social sustainability, and investing in new technology that helps improve sustainability, such as: artificial intelligence applications, clean technology, and renewable energy.

The workshop ended with a Q&A session and the students were advised to gain more hands-on experience in chemistry.
