BIOMEDICAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
Introduction
Medical technology is becoming increasingly important in health care. Our educational program focuses on the development of new biomedical technology for life science research and advanced health care. In addition, to traditional areas of mechanical and electrical engineering; Students will have the opportunity to take advanced courses that include medical instrumentation, biosensors, image processing, signal processing instrumentation devices, data base programming, computer software development, nano-devices and nano-sensors. It provides a strong foundation in Engineering science and Informatics that flows smoothly into graduate studies in Biomedical Technology Sciences. This program gives the opportunity to students to see the interdependence of different biomedical engineering disciplines in the development of modern medical devices and Informatics systems. Individuals completing this program will be able to work as engineers in the rapidly expanding medical equipments, medical informatics, and systems industry. Others could pursue master program in biomedical fields, medical sciences or biomedical informatics. Using this background to enter any of these areas will assure a long-term appreciation of the interdisciplinary approach.
Program Outcome
Consistent with the College’s Mission Statement, the goals of Medical Equipments Technology Program are:
1. The structure of the curriculum provides both breadth and depth across the range of biomedical technology topics also; provide a choice of 2 specialties for students.
2. Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
3. Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
4. Ability to identify, formulates, and solves biomedical engineering problems.
5. Ability to understand the impact of biomedical solutions in a global and societal context.
6. Knowledge of contemporary issues of biomedical technology.
7. Ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering, and computing tools necessary for biomedical practices.
8. Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
9. Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
10. Culture of self and life-long learning.
