A preparatory workshop about stem cell transplantation was held on 06/03/1438 at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Majmaah University. The purpose of the workshop was to raise awareness of the new treatment as well as the latest developments in the field throughout the University community so as to contribute to the recovery of patients with stem cells cancer.
The workshop addressed both the introduction of the new treatment technology that enables transplantation of stem cells and the registration process at the Donor Registry along with the donation procedures.
Several students along with the faculty members attended the lecture, which was held under the supervision of Mr. Alaa Shaheen- Head of the Student Affairs Unit and Dr. Randa Al-Arousi- Head of the Community Service Unit at the Female Section.
Another workshop was held at King Khalid Hospital in Majmaah to introduce interns of the Faculty to the campaign and prepare them for participating in it. Mr. Abdullah Al-Mussa, the lecturer from the Donor Registry, commended the efforts of the Faculty in organizing workshops and seminars concerned with raising awareness of the stem cell transplantation treatment. “I really appreciate the opportunity given to me and my colleagues at the Faculty to present the recent developments in stem cell transplantation technology,” he pointed out. “This will help in the registration of donors at the Registry in addition to spreading awareness of the new treatment,” he added.
Dr. Fahad Al-Thefiri- Dean of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences- instructed the Department of Student Affairs to coordinate with the Saudi Donor Registry under the umbrella of King Abdullah International Center for Medical Research in holding a workshop in preparation for a donor campaign at the University of Majmaah in the future.
