The Saudi Center CIFAL participated in the official side event organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and UNESCO, which was held at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) under the theme: Higher Education Institutions as Vital Partners in Designing and Delivering Sustainable, Resilient and Innovative Solutions".

 

The Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, attended the event which discussed how higher education institutions can play a pivotal role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through interdisciplinary learning, knowledge-based and community-oriented actions, and integrating sustainability as a core objective of education and research.

 

Education leaders from over 10 countries to discuss ways forward in making future policies for higher education institutions. Among the attendees were the Executive Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research - Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations - Nikhil Seth, in addition to a group of presidents of international universities such as: Victoria University, Newcastle University, and high-level representatives from United Nations organizations and the governments of Ireland, Finland, and Croatia.

 

MU was represented in this event by the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Muhammad Al-Shehri, and the Director of the Saudi Cifal Center, Dr. Ayman Al-Barakati, who pointed out that the support of MU's rector and the Chairman of Cifal Council has played a role in allowing the center to participate in such events.

At the request of MU Rector and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Cifal Center, Prof. Saleh Al-Mezal - MU participated in the Higher Education for Sustainability Forum (HESI) 2024, which was held as a special event under the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). The event aims to follow up and review the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The event was attended by His Excellency the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, and high-level representatives from international organizations and governments. Prof. Mohammed Al-Shehri, the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, represented MU as a speaker in this event.

 

The event focused on "The Future of Higher Education for Sustainable Development" and addressed the intersection between education, innovation, and sustainability, with a focus on the impact of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies amid the challenges facing the progress of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

The event acted as a preparatory platform for future initiatives to be promoted or launched at the Future Summit 2024. The recommendations and strategies resulted from the forum will contribute to drafting policies and practices supporting action plans for sustainable development in higher education.

 

The forum asserts the vital role of transforming higher education institutions to keep pace with dynamic global changes and an unpredictable future, valuing local knowledge and partnerships, promoting sustainable and equitable development around the world.

 

All the areas that higher education institutions can possibly contribute to achieving their Sustainable Development Goals using emerging technologies were mentioned, including artificial intelligence.

The university completes the preparations of its scouts to participate in the public service programs for Hajj

Under the guidance and support of His Excellency the University President, Prof. Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah Al-Muzal, the follow-up of the University Vice President for Educational Affairs, Prof. Dr. Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Aboudi, and the supervision of the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Saleh bin Amilh Al-Rashidi, the university has completed the preparations of its scouts to participate in the public service programs for Hajj.

 

The Dean of Student Affairs met with the University’s Rovers, conveying to them the greetings and thanks of the University President and the Vice President for Educational Affairs for their initiative to participate. He also urged them to be sincere in their work, seek reward, and represent the nation in the best way possible in this blessed and honorable mission to serve the guests of God.

 

The University Medical Center also provided a first aid course for the band members, and a course on surveying and guidance was provided, as well as a course on the art of dealing with the guests of God, managing crowds, and withstanding work pressures, presented by the scout leader, head of the sports and scouting activities department, Mr. Nasser Al-Hanou. The band members were also trained on scout instructions and shouts and providing guidance to achieve accomplishments.

 

It is worth mentioning that since its establishment, the university has been keen to participate in the Hajj public service programs with its tours, and its leadership pays great attention to this participation by supporting and providing all the capabilities for its success in participation with all sectors that compete to serve the guests of God with the support, guidance and follow-up of the leadership of our dear homeland.

 

For his part, the Dean of Student Affairs expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the University President for his support and guidance, and to the University Vice President for Educational Affairs for his follow-up.

Under the direction of His Excellency the University President, Dr. Khalid bin Saad Al-Muqrin, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Supervisor of Medical Services, Dr. Khalid Muhammad Al-Abdulwahab, and the follow-up of Dr. Rayan Ghazi Barakati, and in cooperation with King Khalid Hospital in Al-Majma’ah Governorate, represented by the Blood Bank Unit,

 

The Medical Services Department held a blood donation campaign to serve the pilgrims of the House of God in the parking lots of Red Tag stores in Al Majmaah for a period of 3 days, starting from Tuesday 11/24/1436 AH and ending on Thursday 11/26/1436 AH.

 

The campaign was opened by the Medical Director of Medical Services, Dr. Asr Al-Sharman, in the presence of the Director of the Laboratories Department at Riyadh Health, Mr. Khaled Al-Muttalib, and the Blood Banks Coordinator at Riyadh Health.

The Executive Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ryan Barakati, spoke about the campaign, saying: “Participation in this campaign was excellent, as it lasted for three days, in preparation for the Hajj season to serve the pilgrims of the House of God, support the blood banks of the Makkah Health Authority, and the Eid al-Adha holiday this year. Educational and informative brochures were distributed about blood donation and its benefits, in addition to the social benefits for citizens in need of blood transfusions.”

 

The campaign was visited by Al-Faisaly Club team in its campus and Al-Feiha Club team in Majmaah, where they donated blood and thanked the university president for his keenness and support for such campaigns that benefit the citizen and society.

 

 

Medical Services organizes Hajj season vaccination initiative for university staff for the year 1443 AH

The University Medical Center, represented by the nursing staff, participated with its medical services in the Saudi Cycling Federation Championship, Premier Category, for men and women, which was held in Al Majmaah and Jalajil Governorates for two days, 10-11/3/2023 AD. During this time, the center provided the necessary emergency and treatment services to the contestants, and transported cases via the center’s ambulance. This community initiative comes in cooperation with the Sports Authority Office in Al Majmaah.

     The Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Unit in the female students’ sections held an awareness corner on the occasion of the International Civil Defense Day under the slogan “Safety First”, on Monday 7/7/1441 AH in the college lobby, with the participation of a number of college units, and the attendance of college staff and students.

 

    The corner included publications about civil defense and fire safety tools such as extinguishers and others and how to use them.
