Description:

This course is a clinical practicum, which provides each student an opportunity to practices as a beginner nurse under the supervision of a faculty member and continuing education unit in the hospital. In this course, student will spend 10 actual hours per week in clinical area. Areas include: surgical and medical wards, emergency department, ICUs, and operation department. Student is expected to provide best comprehensive nursing care for patients under direct supervision.  This care will be guided by critical thinking and decision making approach. A list of skills that the student must master is clarified in this course. Since one can expect what is available for each practice date, there will be no scheduling for the skills.

This course provides an overview of the concepts and principles of leadership and management emphasizes the role of the nurses as a change agent in shaping health care for the future. The concepts and theories of organization, management and leadership, change decision making are explored. Evidence-Based Practice and Critical Thinking

Description:

This course aims at introducing nursing students to the concept of evidence-based practice and the use of critical thinking in utilizing the appropriate evidence for best nursing practice. It introduces students to several major models of utilizing the evidence and focus on one major contemporary model namely John Hopkins University Hospital Model of EBP. The course describes the several methods of finding the evidence using the databases of scientific research, reading and critiquing research papers and applying critical thinking concepts in the process of translating the evidence to practice. A special focus is placed on the cyclical process of identifying clinical questions, searching and appraising the evidence for potential solutions/innovations, planning and implementing practice changes, evaluating the outcomes and identifying additional gaps in nursing knowledge.
