Description:

This course introduces the students to the normal growth and development of the children from infancy to adolescence. Also, it covers the pathological entities of children: the major systems of the body, respiratory, cardiovascular, hematology, and gastrointestinal, gentato-urinary, central nervous system, endocrine, integumentary and musculoskeletal systems will be taught. 

The goal of this course is to enable the student to utilize the nursing process to develop plans of care for the pediatric patients, recognizing and addressing the psychological, developmental, and physiological implications of nursing to the pediatric patient.

This course requires students to utilize the nursing process in the care of healthy and high risk pediatric populations and their families experiencing disruptions in biopsychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs. Emphasis is also placed on meeting health promotion and health maintenance needs, caring, therapeutic communication, documentation and teaching. Students are expected to spend the first 6 weeks in the lab followed by 8 weeks in pediatric clinical areas.
